Weird Volume Problem

Had a disturbing thing happen at a gig a couple days ago:

So I was playing a gig and began to have these huge volume changes in the amp's output. The first time, I was playing and all of a sudden noticed the volume had greatly declined. Puzzled, I cranked it. Half an hour later, the volume jumped up to the former level and I had to turn down. That was quite shocking! I played a wedding yesterday and I swapped out the 9v in the preamp and used my QSC K10 instead of the AER and nothing happened during the 90 min of playing or so.

Here is the gear I was using:
Cordoba with piezo/mic Matrix system
AER compact mobile

Some possibilities:
1. some kind of glitch in the guitar sliders
2. old 9v in the guitar preamp
3. the AER's high/lo output switch being activated

The preamp is one of those that's in the guitar. I did put in new batteries for my wedding yesterday and the problem did not surface.
