I suspect this will either be a huge pile of suck or be super ridiculous fun. I think I'm going to pick it up anyway and waste my weekend with it...

Anyone played it yet at a tradeshow or as a beta?

It's been out in the US for about a year, apparently the European release was held up by a copyright argument over the name by a UK band called "Rocksmith"

It's OK. A good way to expose yourself to music that you might not otherwise pay attention to. And an intersting use of the technology to act as a teaching aid not just a game system
Many of the arrangements are kind of easy but it mixes things up and adds new music to your repertoire and anything that puts a guitar in your hands has to be a good thing

Man I hated the whole "rockband/guitar-hero" idea because you could just be spending time playing the real deal.... However This thing seems great. My girlfriend and I gonna try it out. Learning bass and guitar while playing a video game... Awesome!!!

I was very disappointed by it. I had previously used Rock Prodigy and prefer it in every way.
