All to an Ampex MM1200 16-trk, 3M 996 at 30 IPS, and then into PT at 48k via Apogee AD-16x.
The kit is a Gretsch that used to belong to Bun E. Carlos. It might be the best-sounding kit I've ever heard.
Pictured are Patrick Ferguson (on the right), drummer for Five Eight, and Lemuel Hayes, drummer for White Violet, two of Athens' finest.
Hey, guys! Here's a little more info:
The rack and floor both have coated Emperor batter heads and coated Ambassador resonant heads. The kick has a coated Powerstroke P3 batter with ported coated Ambassador with a felt strip.
The snare drum for the session was a '60s Leedy Chrome Over Brass 6.5 x 14" with Radio King style throw-off and Puresounds. Batter head was a coated Ambassador and reso was a hazy Ambassador.
Cymbals were:
Hats: either 14" '70s Zildjian New Beats (once owned by Sterling Campbell) or 15" Istanbul Agop Xists.
1st crash: either a 22" Istanbul Agop Traditional Medium Crash or 18" Istanbul Agop Alchemy Crash.
Ride Cymbal: either a 20" '70s Zildjian (American) K Ride with 3 rivets or an Istanbul Agop Xist 22" ride
2nd crash: either a 20" Istanbul Agop Alechemy Crash or 20" Istanbul Agop Xist Brilliant Crash (the darkest crash cymbal I have ever heard. It's like listening to Satan exhale.)
Richard asked if it was ok to post sound files and of course I said Yes, so those may pop up here sooner or later.
