If you subs have a highpass filter, connect your main outs to the subs, and then the hpf output on the subs to your tops. This way your tops don't get the low frequency stuff.

The subs I'd get do have a hpf. I'll probably go with option one.
Having kick, maybe toms, and bass in a subgroup and sending them to the sub is what I'd do otherwise.
