MRC,
The short answer is that this latency will be specific to your application.
The latency you will experience with the X32 using USB/Firewire is dependant on a few different factors including drivers, software, and your computer hardware. For example, a Live Plugin Host application such as Waves Multirack will exhibit much less latency than monitoring through a DAW such as Pro Tools or Logic. Buffer settings within your software also will affect latency. As a guideline, I can tell you that Logic 9 measures 11.9 ms of round-trip latency using a 128 buffer setting on my Spring 2010 MacBook Pro over Firewire on Mac OSX 10.6.8. Bringing the buffer down to 64 brings latency to 9 ms, but my system can have difficulty with this on larger sessions. The latency due to the X32 in these scenarios is negligible compared to what is added by the DAW, when you consider the X32’s 0.8 ms latency from Analog In to Analog Out. Remember that you can use the built in processing and effects on the X32 for monitoring while tracking, to bring latency levels near zero.

thanks for the answer!
the ideea of using some of my favourite plug ins for live has been in my mind for some time. seems like the x32 can do it, at least on paper. of course my biggent concern is latency and driver stability. i plan on using reaper for playing some tracks and for processing. do you thing the latency would be bigger compared to multirack or live professor?
