The Midi out and in ports work fine when you are plugged into USB however you should probably quickly read the user manual to get your head around how they are setup in the device manager. Basically you end up with 2 midi ins and outs, one of them being dedicated to the controller itself whereas the actual midi plugs on the back of the keyboard become Midi OUT/IN B. This had me scratching my head for half an hour trying to get the keyboard to control my hardware while USBed but after I cracked the manual it all made sense.
