There is not enough access to Access Virus technical info to be of service to you because it is kept hidden.
But please see the example of the 3 billion float point operations of the Axe FX guitar modeler- which is why the unit kills any other modeler. Guitar Rig or Amplitube sound thin compared to it - just like Massive and Camel audio sound thin compared to Virus.
Better processing of better code and more intense algorithms. Because a dedicated hardware unit is best suited for this rather than your computer running your session and processing plug-ins and soft-synths at the same time.
Thats why people pay big money for Eventide FX units to run the sends and inserts through the firewire for the Eventide to do the FX, and compressors, EQs, processing, etc.... same reason people buy UAD stuff - you simply are ignorant to the fact that the additional hardware frees up not just your resources, but keeps the computer less likely to experience errors from all the multi-tasking.
But as for Virus vs Soft synths like camel audio and NI stuff - Just A-B them on the same DAW/ same converters side by side... if you don't notice a light years difference then I would advise you to get your hearing checked for severe deficiencies of various sorts to be determined, assessed, and hopefully treated.
