Sure! I hardly ever clip anything. Think I'm unusually sensitive to those artifacts as many seems to be happy with it while I can't stand it. I like variable limiters as they let me adjust the distortion to suit the track.

Then there are the good sorts of distortion.. That's a totally different game! It also happens to work best at the end of the chain in my ears but the results is of course a lot more pleasant. The famous "glue" is a pretty good description.
