I would consider doing neither.

Unless you are already an established engineer or producer, or are working with a team of such people, there is a very high likelihood that the business is not going to be successful. The last thing you want to look like is a loser to your in laws.

That comes across a bit ruder in type than I intended, and I mean it in a purely factual way, so I apologize for that.

I would either: A> get more experience, or B> get a job C> think of another business to get into

and as a distant D, if you must take this risk> I would consider finding someone with more experience to team up with, you provide the money, they provide the know how.
