Owned? I seldom owned anything of value as a kid. A good baseball glove and bat, a football, a basketball, some toys and a bicycle.
In about 1959 a kid nextdoor (that we didn’t like) had a very primitive reel-to-reel when I was in sixth grade and my brother in seventh. The neighbor kid wasn’t interested in it, so we borrowed it for a year or so and screwed around with it a lot. We mostly did noises and voices. Then my father got a cassette recorder to dictate stuff to be typed later at his insurance office. So we screwed around with that instead. We didnt see a decent tape recorder until some neo-hippies from the Bay Area spent time in town building a pipe organ for a local church. One of them had a Teac that could make an excellent recording. That was about 1965.
Thinking about it, I didn’t own tape recorders myself until about 1980.
