Microphone selection is not the most obvious issue with this recording.
I don’t understand why you have panned the main vocal and guitar away from center. That’s an unnatural and distracting stereo placement for a singer/guitarist.
The main guitar and vocal are not distorted, so that’s good (at least to my tastes).
Have you done anything to alter the basic guitar/vocal recordings? EQ? reverb? compression?
The added vocals are not panned and adjusted carefully for level.
Yes, it's a mess. It's like stepping gum. Every time I touch it, the mess gets worse. Thanks for the tip about the main vocal and guitar. Before exporting it, I was fiddling with mixer dials, and when I panned the vocal left, it seemed to get clearer. So I just panned the guitar to the right a little bit, left the backing vocal in the center, and then exported it. It's good to know it sounds distracting. I'll go back and put it like it was and try to fix some editing and volume problems. Like you say, the obvious problems aren't the mics. They're with the guy sitting behind the mixing board

. Again, thanks for taking the time to reply.
