Todays rig:
4 Daking 9179. Good on anything. Usually on kick, snare, overheads and mix buss. Many times in room mics with the 33609 release
Manley ELOP. Always on vocals and bass guitar. Often on overheads.
Langevin DVC. Almost always on one pair of room mics and usually on piano and usually I’m tracking keyboards direct thru this thing
Spectrasonics 610. Always have a dynamic or tube condenser going into my 610 in front of a drum kit, no preamp. Often on acoustic guitar and vocals or when I want a weird cool piano sound
Audioscape D Comp. Always on a pair of drum overhead or room mics. Often on stereo piano. Often on drum buss parallel. Sometimes in mix buss
Sold everything else. Just didn’t use them much.
Still would like to have a Phoenix or a pair of 1176
another year passes and i'm still basically with the same comps. software is so good now i just find myself using outboard less and less except for tracking.
still have:
4 daking comp limiters
1 manley elop
1 audioscape d comp
1 spectrasonics 610
looking for a thermioinic phoenix or maybe the aurora stereo fet/opto compressor. would like to have another option for stereo buss.
find i don't need anything else. i often use uad plugins on the way in for basic level control. with my apollos and luna its so easy and it sounds great. the distressor sounds just like a real distressor to me for i what i use it for.
never thought i'd say that.
i love the undertone audio fairchild plugin but still would like a hardware tube vari mu style
have a difficult time getting rid of my dakings because they just work always and i use them in tracking all the time. the d comp does the tg thing which i love many times and my spectrasonics is always on a mic at the front of my drum kits.
the manley and dakings have been my vocal chain forever and im just so used to it.
don't really even have the desire for an 1176 anymore.
