I had the 24:8 and remember the day I bought it, which was awesome.
At the time, there wasn't much available in that price range. I used it with an Otari 5050 8 track, an ADAT, and a DA-38.
I remember wanting a Tascam 3500 but the 24:8 was about $3000 and the Tascam was something like $10,000+.
I also had a Digitech Quad and one of those hated Alesis compressors, but I made many outstanding records on the Mackie.
A friend of mine had the Ultramix automation system, which I was envious of. I still have the VHS demo of it.
I got rid of the Mackie when I went ITB for a time. I don't miss it, and I wouldn't buy another one.
When I bought a console for my studio a couple of years ago, I went with The Box, which I like way better but the Mackie was def king of its time.
