I haven't done a critical A/B, but first impression is that the hardware is a bit rounder sounding when pushed, and more depth overall. EQ is a bit smoother. Somewhere in the usual 5-15% gap between good plugin emulators and their source.

The plugin is a good audition of the overall feature set. Safe to say, if you like what it does well enough then you'll probably love the hardware.
