I nearly pulled the plug on a Fearn because that's the sound I'm currently looking for, but I'd much prefer a 500-series version. I know it's "based on" the Fearn but I've been fooled by based on in the past.
The DWF VT-2, Hazelrigg VLC, and new DVA all share the same input amp circuit. However, they differ in form factor and output sections, which will somewhat color the end result and overall feel.
The DVA Tube Pre is the most entry-level way to get you the classic Doug Fearn sound. With the lower voltage and a solid state make-up, it is the most transparent of the bunch, the most gain overall, and with less headroom. Not a 1:1 replacement for the VT-2 but one that Doug Fearn, and the Hazelrigg's are fully proud of.
Like the Hazelrigg VLC, we think of the lines as different tiers based on the same core, each with their own value.
Not simply 500 series cover band versions of classic products; we have ALL been burned by that in the past from other
