This. In my experience, it's as important as cross referencing.
It's amazing how much the brain (and ears) get used to what you're hearing if you insist on doing a mix in one go.
You simply stop hearing things objectively and start hearing the "imprint" inside your head instead.
So yes, in an ideal scenario, taking a few days break is the best approach (but not always doable, depending on the deadline set).
