I don't think the value proposition for Threadripper is "speed" but rather parallel work with many more cores. In other words you get far more cores per dollar (I think) relative to Xeon.

It's pretty clear there's something still going on with low-latency performance on the TR when using virtual instruments, but once you hit the 256 buffer and if you're
not using VI then the Threadripper looks really good.
Then again, neither TR nor Xeon are inexpensive solutions so you have to wonder if there's a financial benefit in getting one.
