Dave Spearritt is your man for that. It seems likely that it’s a Blumlein pickup, as the studio seems neither particularly reverberant nor large, so the rear out of phase components will be contributing to any sense of space ?

Did anyone notice (in the upper photograph) a pickup or mic cable emerging from the tailpiece of the double bass…the article doesn’t state whether that was contributing to the mix ?
