I agree, here’s my review:
This is my first fancy ($1k+) pair of headphones, just did a batch of songs with them.
i found them quite confusing at first, it sent me into major « bug squashing » mode and i felt confused by the level of detail. Things were pulling my attention every which way. Referencing them against my speakers, there were some adjustments but of
course it’s normal as you learn a new reference. There weren’t a lot of surprises going between my speaks and the headphones.
I did try them with no EQ but after working for a while with and without the Oratory EQ i found them easier to work on with eq - they sound more like my speakers that way.
Now with some distance after the holidays i’m listening to that batch of songs, it’s some of the best work i’ve ever done in the least amount of time. Undoubtedly an amazing tool, I will keep them for sure.
They remind me of my ATC speakers resolution wise - all elements are differentiated really well, i can hear where every element sits frequency wise with ease. I’m hearing vocal clicks and pops in major artist mixes, Lol. Rediscovering my music collection and intimate references.
I do hate the way they look lol. They have an « audiofool » aesthetic to them. And the manny endorsement vibe feels silly. It has an LA cool audio guy vibe that i don’t like lol. Also wish they weren’t open back, I’m not a headphone aficionado but i guess they are open for a good reason.
Undoubtedly a killer referencing tool, it’s like having my ATCs strapped to my head. If only i could ditch speakers entirely - I still don’t think it’s possible.
