I have two Echo AudioFire Pre8 interfaces. One is has been attached to my 'admin' Win10 HP Z220 tower through an Adaptec PCI (not PCIe) firewire card for the past 10 years. The second, I bought a few months ago for $75.
The second is in the piano room on the ground floor of my home (the studio is on the 3rd floor). It's attached through a Lenovo T400 laptop (4-pin firewire) for convenient in-room recording. I am using an ASP800 preamp's ADAT output into the Echo Pre8. The analog output of the ASP800 connects through a Behringer SD8 digital snake which goes onto AES50 up to the Midas M32 that is ADAT-connected to DAW-1, and AES50/USB-connected to DAW-2. Whew!
The Echo Pre8 has a beautiful combination of features (internal DSP-based signal routing, combo XLR-in, two Hi-Z inputs, MIDI-in/out, ADAT-in/out, SPDIF-in/out, BNC WordClock-in/out) ... much like a Focusrite 18i20, which would be the Pre8's natural replacement should firewire become impossible for me.
