Thanks for all the feedback about the 511! Really cool seeing how you guys use it and how so many of you hear the nuance and truly get what it's about! That is always really awesome to see.
We were really stoked to have the opportunity to partner with Ken Hirsch and bring this legendary little EQ to life in the digital space. It's a really simple but really powerful and musical EQ. We digitally re-created it using our component-level modeling tech and then made it fully variable instead of having 2db increments. We spent a lot of time with the hardware and measured the curves to be identical with the unit we were provided. We also felt we nailed the tone of the unit. I loved the comment about the halo around the top end boost - YES!!
In our opinion, a big part of what makes this plugin awesome IS the fact that it's limited. The bands are so musical and sweet sounding that you can shape a sound into what you want super quickly. THEN dig into it with a super flexible modern EQ to fix issues, etc. I personally am a big fan of working this way as I have found I get to the desired end result faster and with fewer moves. Something I do all the time is use the CA-70s plugin to inflate a sound, often by throwing on the default setting and simply adjusting the wet/dry to where I like it. Then I use the 511 to shape the sound within the context of the mix. Then I throw on a Kirchhoff EQ, etc to fix tiny resonances, etc.
Thanks for all the feedback! Please feel free to ask any questions or provide any more feedback. We want to be on here a lot more interacting with our users. Thanks!
Loving this EQ more with each day i use it. Just a so unique sound.
I have reported a bug to support weeks ago though, did not get any reply.
Basically the OS not working properly, it does not report the PDC amount to the host, and the audio gets delayed. I don't use the OS on this plugin, cause the harmonics are just too subtle for it to be a concern, but it's a bug none the less
