I have to say, however, that in a plugin like this (taking for granted sound quality, since UAD has shown they know their tapes) is workflow. To be useful, this needs to make me move quick from model to model and pick the one I like the best on the source (I also accept a “design” target of “obvious” tape sounds, it’s fine).
I have seen a number of times developers delivering wonderful sounding plugins and utterly failing at considering how it would be convenient to use them. This is just from what I have read here. I will of course get it (sparks here) and form my own opinion.
Having the output slider in the full version seems to solve part of the issue, but from the comments it does not seem it’s enough (e.g., all models should assume a common input level, have an input trim to compensate when it’s not the case and ideally statically compensate the output knowing the characteristics of the machines — i would say that hitting them at the intended level should on average not change the volume). Under these conditions, switching becomes very easy.
If that does not work, the usability of the software is reduced. And these days, we are spoilt by excellent choices.
As you can see I am not advocating for a super advanced fine-tuning workflow: just to be able to leverage the strength of this release (having several different models) properly.
I only have free version and those are creative effects imo. Too much "lofi" even at 0% drive, to be considered as mixing/mastering tools. Except if someone is looking to make the "1920 Mix"

For that reason I can live with no output parameter as I'll not use during the final mixing. Of course I wouldn't say "no" to have it, but it is what it is.
I think that I'll use them only in breakdowns with automated on/off instead of leaving it all the time on. This is my first impression at least.
Yeah we are totally spoiled with choices. These days I'm super picky, if plugin doesn't have a great sound + fast, clean and functional interface + licensing system allowing for two or more computers at the same time, I'll not buy it. I'm a horrible customer
As I got those for free I don't complain. But if I had to, I'm not a fan of current trend of making "screen space wasters" where 60-90% of GUI is just a picture. Those at least are not covering 80% of my screen so it's not that bad.
