The saturation can be moved pre or post EQ on P42 Climax. I do use the EQ to do some pre-saturation emphasis and it works very well. I use P42 and Abyss on all my projects. They are very organic sounding.
Also, for saturation, P565 Siren is amazing and has a much bigger gain range than P42 Climax. The drive can be moved pre/post filters, but it has more filters/types and cut/boost. Sounds great doing filtering, but I think one of the most overlooked features on it is the saturation. I use P42 more for subtle mixing purposes and Siren for designing really tuned and specific drive for guitar/bass/drums/synth.

For 50-pence, as you are demoing, this is one thing I do know that is helpful with P42 - the infrasonic filter has three settings that vary the HPF. That selection is found, counterintuitively, in the drop down menu from the burger menu on the upper right of the plug.
