People tend to forget that Protools has eucon integration that enables the film industry to use s6/s4 consoles. Even Nuendo can’t compete there. The integration of decent Dadman hardware was also a good move. They now have more or less replaced hardware consoles in film and post production. Can they compete in the music industry ? Probably not with logic/ live and reaper but music mixers still mostly use protools for mixing mainly for its ssl style automation and ease of routing .
