Hi Brian! Looks like a really amazing project. How many sqft will the finished build be?
As far as STC, the question id ask is what is the goal? Will this be a commercial studio with clients coming through constantly or is it more your own creative space? The threshold for needing really good STC is definitely higher for the former. Being on 5+ acres is helpful, but airplanes and landscaping noise can still ruin a take if they’re nearby. I’m not done with my door installations so I can’t yet tell you if my build blocks out those two annoyances.
The walls and ceiling are the original framing + insulation, then OSB sheathing, then another layer of framing + insulation directly on that osb, then the slat and gap. The windows are doubled up (two functioning standard household windows in each bay, small air gap in between). The entry door is a solid wood STC 50 door. The large French barn doors are getting custom built and will not be high STC, but together with some tweaks to the big sliding barn door im hoping two sets of doors adds up to some decent STC like with the two sets of windows.
I did not float the floor.

Ok, so I’m building a pole barn studio. Like you, it took me a better part of 20 years to get here. Some of the things I’m struggling with are
1) how much isolation do I really need.
Like you I'm on 5.4 acres and I’m not sure I need
professional STC ratings. I am doing room in a room
construction for the control room and live room but
I’d like to use the existing structures ceiling for the
live room ceiling.
So
2) It’s not clear to me if you did room within a room. Obviously the wall with windows is not. It looks like you sheath’d with plywood to the exterior walls and then framed in again, insulated and then put your slats with gaps over that. Is that correct or did you do the slats with gaps right against the existing structures framing?
And
3) Did you float the floor? I’m planning on doing OC703 on the floors with double t&g plywood on top per Rod’s book.
Here are some pics of my build thus far.
