I know a lot of folks are convinced that their sampled drums will be better than anything they could find in the Toontrack sample packs...but that is rarely the case.
You might get some specific placement control that's not provided in a SD3 drum kit or their mixer option...but it would have to be something pretty unusual. They cover just about anything, and most of their samples are done buy top pros in top studio settings. Beat that.
That said...I still have/use a drum kit in my studio in certain situations where I'm recording the whole kit, with other players, etc, but I don't bother trying to record drum samples for the sake of replacing the SD3's more often the other way around replacing/augmenting the studio drums with SD3 samples.
