Thanks for that Doug. That's what sounded logical to me and what i've been doing. All variants aside, glad it seems to be the correct/intended way.

Same as anything. Old preamp transformers are rated for 'intended source Z', the rating isn't the Z of the input itself. RCA's are frequently 250 and 50. Use the closest thing for the inductance of the transformer to see something close to what it expects for rated response.
