This is all still relevant in 2021!
- > Home/project studio level Nuage, modular (8, 16, 24, 32, separate master section), integrated well with Cubase (track colours pulled through for starters). Nice design, good build quality, medium price tag. Made by Yamaha. Sold.

Some (personal) opinions on the latest bits and pieces:
Avid s1 - not bad, but enough with the ipads. most home producers/composers have multi-screen or just plain huge screen setups already. The controllers should just be an extension of that, mainly used for levels, pan, send levels, mute, solo, record enable, etc. The main computer screen(s) (and mouse/keyboard) should still be in the best ergonomic position, and be getting the most use. Also, if you don't want to use iPads, you are stuck looking at grey rubber and multiple Avid logos.
Console 1 fader - I don't want to put a plugin on every channel and refer to some other software window to do these basic tasks (also the UX of that software is not very clear to the eye). No scribble scripts. Also these don't seemlessly connext side by side. Won't pull in Cubase track colours.
ICON Qcon Pro x - I had some, they weren't very nice. Loud faders. Scribble scripts looked like a 90s calculator. People have a lot of issues contacting support with this brand too. They connect together nicely though to form a nice large unit. Won't pull in Cubase track colours.
Behringer x Touch - I had some, they weren't very nice. Good value at low price point though. Won't pull in Cubase track colours.
