There are valid reasons to use fiber in a touring or mobile set up. And lots of touring shows do carry fiber for their main snake runs. You just have to know the draw backs and be willing to work within them. Like everything in audio, it depends.

If you aren't using fiber all the time, it probably makes sense to find a shop with what you need and arrange for a rental if you only need it a few times a year.
