It made the mix slightly lofi, but when time was tight, like mixing a live TV show, it felt as mixing with a safety net. I still bring an old finalizer when I have to mix live to TV and I know time will be tight.
Keep an eye out for a used TC DBMAX broadcast processor, expensive twenty years ago, but very price-worthy on the used market nowadays - vintage digital.
It's five band and much more transparent than the Finalizer. A bit fiddly to tweak, but once you have a preset that works for you, it's your best friend when mixing live broadcast or music. Better sounding than the Finalizer and with extended functionality.
Anyway, just a tip.

Maybe it was the phasey crossover filters? No idea, but I can’t duplicate it with something like Ozone’s multiband dynamics, McDSP ML4000, Waves C4 or Avid Pro MB. They all sound much more transparent, but none of them have this instant glue thing going on. If anybody knows why please tell me.
I understand what you mean. I think most multi-band compressors have too steep inter-band filtering (by default), which makes them more 'technical' and less musical. As far as I understand, the TC multi-band compressors have gentle filters which means more inter-band interaction. Maybe that's what you're hearing.
Personally, I love the 'grab' that TC compressors have, and it's part of coloring the sound. They can do quite a bit of compression without putting a lid on the sound.
Haven't tried the new TC plug-ins yet, but I quite like the TC Finalizer software - in its simplicity.
