It seems that Yamaha and Stanford did some joint development at some time, though both organisations have also conducted independent development.
CCRMA and Yamaha were close for a while. I don't know the exact specifics. I remember seeing a whole bunch of new Yamaha everythings at CCRMA as an undergraduate in the late 80s/early 90s.

I'm not sure. I wasn't that high up in the hierarchy of Staccato Systems, so I wasn't party to the actual IP rights discussions. From looking at Korg's patents of the time, they certainly took things in a different direction than the CCRMA stuff.
