Well, ideally; mastering engineers (or mixing engineers for that matter) would sum low frequency content below at least 80 Hz or so to mono. It´s just a waste of cone travel to only let one side of a system reproduce low frequencies that can’t be localized anyway. As long as the harmonics of for example a floor tom is coming from one side; it will still be perceived as coming only from that side.
Attention mastering engineers: Sum low frequencies to mono! It will result in lover distortion and less modal issues when listening to your work.
