The low profile of the Avid s3 and Artist are to me great selling points. The Behringer looks cheap and is bulky; the Mackie looks better but is also a bit bulky. So from my perspective this would have been a really nice product if it wasn't for that bridge. Completely unnecessary for me.
I also think people will still complain. If you read threads like this one it's often a matter of having wildly unrealistic expectations. So we already have the X-touch at $600, and I don't really see how any of the people who want more for less would buy this new controller for $1,000 instead. And quite frankly it's priced so "high" that the Avid Artist mix begins to look very appealing.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see many improvements with this compared to the QconPro.
1. It has built-in DAW functions instead of a cheap looking overlay.
2. They moved the led meters next to the slider to a meter bridge which does undo a lower profile.
3. It's black instead of silver.
What else is different or improved? Everyone is elated over this:

But what is the improved or new features over the QconPro?
For my workflow the next improvement needs to be on the part of Steinberg and most every other DAW. With basic MCU protocol, Cubase will follow whatever you touch on Qcon. But Qcon will NOT follow whatever you touch on Cubase. You have to manually shift banks. I thought this was the fault of the protocol, but I'm told each DAW should compliment it. I believe this is true because the one exception I have heard is a version of Logic where Qcon DOES follow what you click on in Logic.
I was told by Mixware (USA distributor) that it would not replace the QconPro. That was 1.5 years ago. They say street price is about 1k. The QconPro in the USA was around $800. I can't imagine them keeping both models.
