Create Digital Music did a post/rant about it. I think it was the sound + color scheme + wood sides that made it so.
Teles I don't know about but Jaguars, Jazzmasters and Mustangs became the indie guitars because they were cheap when 80s/90s alternative artists couldn't
afford better. And they look cool.
