Maybe I shouldn't tell anyone about this plugin because it has become a secret weapon for making my drums sound amazing. I use much less EQ to get the sound I want which is great because it keeps my drums sounding organic, full and punchy at the same time.

However, there is a bit of a learning curve and maybe MAAT Digital can release a few videos on youtube going into a more in-depth explanation on how everything works.

When you first load it up, it can be confusing as to what you need to do. But if you know a little bit about how phase works, then just slap this on drum tracks and start turning the knobs until you hear the magic (I would recommend starting with kick and or snare).

It goes without saying that this also works on any other tracks which use multiple mics (bass, guitar, etc.) as well.

Anyway, I don't want to keep rambling on but this is a utility plugin that every serious engineer should have in their tool box. Instead of dropping a bunch of money on some EQ or compression plugin, try this instead.

Suppose I should mention that I am a full time engineer with a few platinum records to my name and have worked on many songs that have made it to the Billboard charts.

RSPhaseShifter is unique among phase tools for a few reasons which may not be readily apparent. So I advise anyone interested to simply demo it. I've used or own most of the best manual phase adjustment plugins and can honestly say none of them bring together all the benefits RSPS offers, especially when you take both sound quality and ergonomics into account.

I rated it a 4/5 for Ease of Use, but don't let it fool you, because it is very intuitive. Nonetheless, I recognize it does require some attention to fully understand, as is the case with most phase plugins. But the great thing is, it's a serious tool, and once you start working with it, you'll see it's powerful yet easy to use.

The interface is straightforward enough (albeit, I'd like it to be resizable) and I love the analog feel of it's workflow. You can use it for traditional or creative tasks with the confidence of knowing it was created with a real passion to have the original Roger Schult unit in the digital realm. I think they've achieved it!

So for any engineer who's serious about phase manipulation, you'll be happy to know RSPS is a great blend of form and function. And the sound is top notch... It's very transparent and pays great homage to the W2324 hardware.
