High Voltage Audio 4000 G-Series SSL Stereo Bus Compressor

I have an eclectic bunch of stuff I’ve collected over the years ranging from “high end/high price tag” down to bargain basement “old Aphex/DBX & Drawmer “ [which I love a lot!!]

It’s been inevitable that i was going to add an SSL style G-4000 series VCA “buss comp” and had narrowed it down to a few that are well known to the forums, including the Smart C2 , Roll Music RMS755 & Stam SA4000.

I stumbled across the HVA SSL clone on and to my surprise found that it’s an Aussie made product.
I made contact with James from High Voltage and after reading the specs, looking at the site and some correspondence I took the punt and purchased a unit.
I had it in my hands within days [sometimes being Downunder works ]
All I can say is It’s been one of the most satisfying purchases I’ve made in a long time!

Is it an SSL XLogic G-Series? Nope
Does it sound and behave like one? Indeed

I’m not going to rave on using words like “glue” & “transparent”
This box just sounds tight & right over just about anything.
You can squeeze the sh*t out of drum tracks or add air to an acoustic guitar.
I have tried it over anything and everything and it behaves itself even with ridiculous settings.
The build quality is superb: XLR in/outs and the meter/switches & knobs all function as per design specs.
The added turbo mod is a real bonus & the sidechain high pass filter isn’t a tacky gimmick, It actually works and is very useful.
The signal to noise specs are respectable.
It’s a fantastic compressor and for the price I am seriously considering buying another..
I like this thing a lot
