Using 14.8V NP-1's with a Fostex FR-2

So I have an FR-2 with a Remote Audio NP-1 DC adapter and I'm looking to use the 14.8V NP-1 batts I already have. Will these power the FR-2 successfully without frying its guts? Does anyone run theirs this way?

Please help... soooooo scared.

Even though I am an inveterate hardware hacker, I wouldn't. The manual strongly warns against supplying over-voltage, and the manual churlishly avoids ANY power specifications for the recorder or the power adapter. Clearly not designed or marketed by anyone who understands the pro audio market.

If I wanted to do this, I would make myself a 12V regulator adapter from a nice LDO voltage regulator.

Thanks. That was the answer I was afraid of. I read somewhere on the web that the unit can run on 8v-18v but I haven't found anything official supporting this. Better safe than sorry in this case.
