Talking Guess the signal path! Just for fun

Dear all,

What better way to celebrate the arrival of a cold than recording a demo...

I recorded this to demonstrate the tone of one of my acoustic guitars built by a friend of mine (an OM style small bodied guitar, quite shallow).

It has a sparkly tone that cuts through dense mixes really well, but also works well for acompanying solo voice as it has a really robust midrange.

Anyways its called "We Were Born In Starlight" and you can hear it on my reverbnation profile: Andy Mitchell - ReverbNation (it is a song firmly in th romantic tradition about the wee hours of the morning, insomnia and the beautiful moon, your only companion, disappearing in the dead hours before the sunrise approaches).

So... what did I use to record it?

Andy,

Let's see...

You used that awesome guitar your buddy built.
You placed a mic in front of the guitar.
That mic was then plugged into a preamplifier that fed into your recording system.

Do I have it right?

Just giving you a thread bump.

If no one else responds why don't you just let us know what you used.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the BUMP

It was actually my Zoom H2 which I bought as a result of picking brains in the remote forum. so... thanks and... thumbsup

Its a pretty fine DAW for rehearsals/demos, although the 70Hz roll-off is a crying shame, but what do you expect for the dough?

What I've noticed about these (and you can hear it in the demo is the off-axis response presesnts a mid-forward sound as well as the expected rolloff - i was singing off to the side about 45 deg)

One day I'll get me a Sony D-1, if only cos they look cool heh

Very cool...

Hey, on a slightly different note; I enjoyed listening to your other tunes.

All the best -- keep up the good work!

Actually, I was going to guess an H4. Just cause I figured you wouldn't ask if it wasn't something like it...

Exactly - one would guess it would be something cheap and cheerful!

Thanks for the compliments Steve!
