Ack what a great thread!

Not really sure I've thought about this as an ensemble, it's more like a list of my favourite players.

Drums -> Steve Reid
Sax -> Coltrane or Pharoah Sanders
Piano -> Brad Mehldau
Bass -> Charlie Haden
Electronics + More Piano -> Esbjörn Svensson
More electronics -> Mira Calix

Although Robert Glasper and Keith Jarrett should be in there somewhere...

I've always wanted to play split lead in the 1950s Basie Band with Snooky Young, Thad Jones and Joe Newman. That's my dream gig and dream band

Crap revisionist thread.
Fantasy is for priapic teenagers
Recorded by Val Valentine or Roy DuNann with cool rhythm section of their choice

But most of this band have already played together - does that disqualify me?

Come on, I hope somewhere there's a vault with another 12 sides yet too be discovered.

but then again.. it could be the count basie band with ella

or duke's orchestra..

or miles with gil evans arranging (heaven)
