Business is down for everyone I imagine. I've seen a fair share of projects get canceled because people in bands lost their jobs. It's probably happening all over the place.

In the past 5 years, 50% of my immediate family has been unemployed. Myself, my younger brother, and my Mom. My dad's retired (former military) so he probably doesn't count. My oldest brother has probably relocated 3 times, gone back to school and other extras just to keep his job. And my next to oldest brother is in the military, so he's probably not in any danger of loosing his job. Although his purple heart license plates are well earned, even though he didn't want them. Definitely NOT the BEST of times. But we're all still here, so not much to complain about given the alternative(s).

Back from the dead to post some new information on my situation. After several months of searching I've taken a new position. I'm going to be the Applications Engineer/Product Specialist for DPA Microphones in North America. This means a move to the Denver area for me and my wife. I will give more details as they materialize.

I want to thank everyone on this forum that gave me encouragement, prayed for me, and took time to talk with me about my situation. A special shout out to Steve (Remoteness), Hudson (Plush), and Rich (Sonare) for their willingness to discuss my issues by phone.thumbsup

I will continue to record part-time in the Denver area when I can, as the NPR affiliate there already has interest in what I do. They play a locally recorded concert every day of the week!

I have to be there by June 1, so continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Good luck will all your future endeavors.

Mike, glad to hear about the new gig! A new city, some new opportunities, life could be very good. Plus, Denver is a great city (in my opinion). Plus, all of my experience with that DPA office has been excellent. Seems like a cool gig! thumbsup

Man this hurts me to hear about. I myself lost my job...unemployment refuses to pay...things are seriously going down. And it seems like they are only getting worse....even seems like it's leading up to something...can anyone say North American Union?

Thanks, guys! I'll have to get used to being in an office instead of doing my own thing, but this was too good to pass up. Good starting pay and benefits. I honestly thought this would never happen.

I'll miss recording every weekend, but maybe this will alllow me to cherry-pick what I do for a change. Could be interesting...

timbreman, I feel 'ya. You may have to look at other avenues of employment for a while. Maybe a move to a different local? Keep praying (if you do that) and keep networking with folks on this forum. Good people.

Good luck Mike.

And a good product to boot.

This is the same as I do (except a different mic.) it finances the recording which I do in whatever "spare" time I have.

I just wish there was the work to go full time - ahhh well..........

Excellent news. I don't normally post in this forum but stumbled across the story and saw that your surname was also Morgan.

I'm pleased for you. Any Welsh links in the family history?

That's the problem out there, folks. There are no "day jobs" to be had. My wife went to a job fair today in Orlando and she couldn't even get near the place because there were already 10,000(!)people in line around the building! Skills don't matter. There just isn't any work, at least not where I'm at. Unemployment is running above 10% here.
I know that feeling. I have just lost a quarter of my salery and can no longer afford to pay the bills. The (quality) location recording business is dead in this area too. All the jobs I see and qualify for online are gone within a day, with hundres of applicants for each one.

To top it off my wife got into a car wreck today and they have to total the car. And the lady in the other car is faking an injury (believe me it is obvious).

We all just have to hang in there, get whatever crap job we can, maybe walk away from a house, until things pick up. I figure if live has a ballance, and things are this bad, most of us are due for something freaking awesome to happen!

Congrats on a wonderful break! It's great that you can stay so close to what you love - not everybody can.

Music and mountains are a great combination. You will find renewed appreciation for Strauss's Alpine Symphony, along with Mahler's 3rd, Sibelius' Tapiola and certain entr'actes in Wagner's Ring. If you're really unlucky, add the Vaughan Williams Sinfonia antartica, phone for the auto club and hope for the best.

For the benefit of anyone coming late to this thread in a similar situation (for things will continue to deteriorate for a while yet) - a national directory of college jobs is at HigherEdJobs.com.

As a general principle, you get just three weeks to get drunk, cry on the toilet and bay at the moon. After that, get off your ankles and start making things happen.

Best wishes to everybody staring into the abyss,
