Russian bells. What do you say?

XII festival of ringing "Danilovskie bells".
Live as it is, cloudy, rain, wind 12-15 m / s, no rehearsal, no sound check, no monitoring, no edits, no processing ... no other chance.

There will be 31 (video) ringing in total.

My tired ears!

Any opinion is valuable.
Thank you!

Blimey that is very Russian
In England the bell ringers are in the tower beneath the bells and ring with mathematical precision with many changes.
The Russian event is more visceral and direct.
English bells sound sublime when rolling over the hills and vales, phasing and echoing.
Russian bells are direct and imposingly martial.
Fascinating.

indeeed fascinating!

over here (in some places) in switzerland, one can still more easily (and more often) hear cow bells than church bells...

...and by the latter, modern city dwellers often feel disturbed in their night or sunday rest, so that they want to prevent the ringing by means of citizens' initiatives; unfortunately they often succeed (while they hardly think about how unspeakably loud it must be for an animal to wear a bell around its neck)?!

anyway, what equipment did you use to record?

Thank you )
This is one of four fully preserved sets of historic bells. The Bells returned home from Harvard in 2007. All other sets in Russia have a more melodic European sound.
I have not found a recording of these bells in all this time that I would have liked. The management of the monastery kindly gave me the opportunity to record.

Sorry for my english, I was a bad student at school.

From the "overhead camera view" ...it looks like a bunch of Coles 4038 ribbons...or a set of mics with big foam screens ?

Compact set:

MixPre-6.
Pair LineAudio CM3 in ORTF.
Pair OM1 directed away from the big bells (thanks to GS and Remoteness).

MixPre -3.
Audio-Technica AT835ST.
The mid channel will be used in one ring only, for very small bells.

I am glad I saw a couple of people wearing hearing protection, if the picture you linked (My tired ears!) showing a 120 dB reading on the sound meter is typical. Hearing loss must be an occupational hazard for Russian bell ringers!
(I think it is a wonderful recording BTW)

Thanks for your feedback.
Usually the sound level is around 110-115 dB.
Many bell ringers are also professional musicians (for example, Olesya Rostovskaya ), they use ear protectors and always have a pair in their pockets 3M , in this case, all the headphones that were on the bell tower were given to the children.
