Acceptable Noise Floor on-Location

When choosing a location for, say, a classical chamber music recording (ie string quartet, not brass quintet), what kind of noise floor would you find acceptable for a CD production?

It's not as simple as assigning an arbitrary pass/fail dB level to a space. Whether it's occasional (eg motorbike or bus accelerating, birds chirping, aircraft or rain/wind) or something more constant like air-conditioning or nearby machinery....all have impact and need to be addressed.

Also looking at audio spectrum occupancy...whether there is broadband or specific frequency noise dominance. If it's steady traffic rumble...will applying a high pass filter also impact unfavourably on the lowest instrumental output frequencies ?

Noise removal, of either transient or persistent material, is almost mandatory for every non-studio setting...and familiarity with how to use them across a number of settings is necessary (as well as knowing when to stop, to prevent an overly sterile recording)
