While there is much discussion about the Rode and Sennheiser shotgun options for location recording (seems as though video folks ONLY look at those, maybe DPA Schoeps and Neumann for high end SDCs), I don't see anyone talking about the Beyerdynamic options.

Given that my two favorite mics are Beyers, I thought it would be worth investigating. The beyerdynamic mce 85 is affordable and practical (in the Rode ntg2 and Sennheiser mke 600 range), but they seem hard to find and nobody really talks about them.

Anyone have any experience with them? Underrated because it never gained market traction, or did it never gain traction because the other options are better suited for location sound?

Thinking of adding a shotgun for on-camera dslr capture and boom work.
