how to sidechain kick and hi hat!!!

basically i know how to set up side chain, but i never use it so i need help.what i want to do is lower the hi hat when the kick comes in because its causing the master to clip. basically the kick and the hi hat are conflicting. i have a bus set up already. where would i put the compression on the kick or the hi hat? and where would i send the bus to?

you want to put the compressor on the hi hat and trigger it with the kick

If the HH is causing the master to clip then it is WAY too high in the mix. The kick and HH's main frequencies should not clash/conflict - hipass the HH and maybe lowpass the kick if you're using a kick sample with a HH in it. Good luck!

Turn down your drums... No need to side chain

If possible: rewrite the velocity of the hats (best option)

If not: automate the volume of the hat down during the kick events (good option)

Other wise try the sidechaining (completely unnecessary, but possible fun option)
