Tracking Sound Modules With a Vintech 273?

Tracking Sound Modules With a Vintech 273

Has any one tried it yet? This is pretty much the only unit in my price range and im looking for that 1073 sound when tracking my Motif/fantom/triton etc.

It seems by the price that this unit is 2 x73i units in 1, as the single x73 is 300+ more.

Do you think this would compare as it's an affordable unit.

That's not true...

The new API A2D is less expensive and also gives you a great A/D...

Thanks for the reply tony

I am pretty much looking for what i "think" is the 1073 sound, warm, rich and a little dark. I read alot that the api is cleaner and clearer. Is this true?

No, it's just a different kind of flavor. The API is more forward and aggresive in the midrange, whereas the Neve is rounder in the bottom end.

I don't think that anything in the Vintech line sounds like a vintage 1073 (nor do I think even the newest AMS Neve re-issues sound exactly like a vintage 1073, and I have done extensive testing)...

I think you could really step up in both quality and character with the Aurora Audio GTQ2.. The GTQ is more similar in the low end to a 1073 than anything else on the market (it's all in the special transformers that Aurora uses), and also features a 3 band EQ... I will say it's slightly more open sounding than the 1073. If you can't swing that, then maybe think about tracking down a racked pair of vintage 1272's for a darker sound..

But, before you buy anything, you might want to go to a local studio with Neve's and API's (and other pre's) and book a couple of hours. Run your keyboards/ MPC's through everything and bring your files home for analyzing in your own studio. Then, you can see for yourself what sounds right for your tastes.

I am really looking for a fuller richer sound, with more presence, and more bottom

Does the DI in the GTQ also color the sound any?

No.. not at all to my ears. But, I don't think they market it as a 1073 sounding preamp.

This is from their websight:

A single channel microphone preamp that is designed to give the classic '70's vintage sound all of today's iron and performance standards!

What else are they talking about? Nevermind.

I am curious as to what would be a higher quality mic pre for a variety of rappers would be. I have the LA-610 and I'm loving it, but it definately has some sizzle to it.
