Producer's Desk

I'm looking for a producer's desk that will allow me to house something like a Control24 or a DCommand. In addition to housing the controller, I'm looking for a desk that will allow me to have my primary midi keyboard controller (Motif ES8) underneath the console, with racks on the side for interfaces and modules. While I'm writing in midi and then tracking to PT, I'd like to be able to pull the keyboard out just like you pull a PC keyboard out on a computer desk. Then after I've done the intial midi writing and tracking, be able to slide the Motif back under the desk, where I would just have the controller for editing and mixing.

Anyone know where I can find a unit like this or is this going to have to be custom made?

Thanks

honestly what I use is a desk called the "Jerker" (i know) from ikea that is so solid, built like a tank, and fits my 24-8mixer. Oh the best part is that its only $75

I have the Ikea Jerker with the optional monitor shelf... I love the way this thing looks and it is very strong and stable!

Just bring the shelf down to ear level and you're good!

i like the jerker. however, the shipping cost more than the desk does.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't have got it... But, they had just opened a new Ikea 35 mins away at the time.

Just to give you folks more stuff to look at:
(prices seem ridiculous to me...but I'm cheap.)

http://www.blackbox.com/

They seem to be a company that caters towards computer/network furniture. I get their catalog in the mail. They have a sweet little 14U rack with a marble top ("only" like $1000)

I don't know their quality - just posting to inspire those would-be wood-workers...

I have an omnirax force 24 & have no complaints. Would prefer to have rack spaces on the top of the desk but it gets the job done.

I paid like 1800 so it's not in the same price range as the "jerker".

Quik Lok's ZM-WS34 mixer workstation will fit a Control 24. Plus you can add individual components.

well it doesn't look like many people have actually read your question but anyway...

As close as I could find would be a Raxxess desk with optional keyboard draw & a side wing for your rack gear. There should be plenty of desk space for a Dcommand...

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ACD4256B/

It is quite a lot of space if you think about it. You probably won't get any rack space under the desk if it is occupied by an 88key keyboard. To fit a D-command and rack space on the top of the desk would require a custom design me thinks...

I have a Nevis 70 from Argosy, total class. It's not cheap, but it's all worth it.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like I'm probably going to have to have something custom made for this purpose. Again the objective is to save space so that I can have access to everything I need right in front of me. Here's a pic I found right on this board after doing a search. I'm guessing this was a custom job.

The Jerker desk is hot. Wish I had the space to put the controller on the other side of the room.

I swear I got a desk that looks similiar to the qwick lock when placed in front of my monitor stands for the Woppingly low price of

$8.95 from the Salvation Army store in Philadelphia.

If it wasnt for the hurricane, I'd probably never have shopped in the salvation army/thrift shops, but they donated vouchers when I lived in the evacuation shelter after Katrina.

For $100 I got
A microwave, Desk,35"TV, VCR and DVD player

You guys gotta go to the salvation Army in your town. (pick the one off the beaten path and in the best/highest income neighborhood you can find.)

Heres my producers desk...
I call it the Home Depot + Officemax special!

DIY Monitor stands (2x4, some 3/4" plywood + spray paint & fabric): $14
Folding Table: $50

Total: $64 & change.

Recently added:
2 used `8 Space` Anvil racks: $100 & change from local music spot. (they were missing the covers & have plenty wear, but still look good).

I have the smallest/weirdest space to work in.
(Imagine a long closet.)
But this all works for now.

I am looking at switching to nice custom desk at some point.
I'd like a Mastering Engineer setup, where all your rack gear is facing up at a angle towards you, all within arms reach.
I saw someone post a really sweet pic of theres in another GS forum.
Maybe an Argosys or a custom job...
