These are the threads on here that make me happy. I hold that era sound as the "gold standard" as well. So many great records...

Soundbombing 2 and the whole Rawkus Era was simply the sickest ever. When are we going to see again Eminem (most people don't even know that such a cut ever existed in the underground), Dilated Peoples, Mos Def and Common on the same record, mixed by the Beat Junkies?

The sound of it? Oh man, this is pure industry standard. 101% Golden Era sonics.

I always wondered how people could have destroyed such a movement. In the second half of '90's, Rawkus completely ruled the underground. They were everywhere.

Say word. There was no easy props and short cuts back then. Emcees had content, concepts, delivery, the whole package. Producers understood the foundation of hiphop production (big bass, chunky drums, ill samples), but still managed to carve their own path and create original sounds.

And judging from what the engineers on this thread have revealed, there were no shorts taken in the recording process as well.

As far as gear, I feel like the sp12 an, mpc60, and S950, asr, and wax are the accoustic and electric guitar of hiphop. Endtroducing is a perfect example of raising the bar of what is possible with limited sample time etc.

It bothers me when I read things like, "i mainly record pop/rnb/rap." as if the genres are supposed to bare resemblance. Every thing sounds the same today and that sucks. Ironic right? In the pursuit of not sounding like that ol' dated music, they strive to emulate the sonic quality of The Jonas brothers and Mylie Cyrus. In the name of being different and not "sampling like every one else", they think using the same 2 finger melodies with preset korg tritonian sounds sets them apart.

What do you consider the golden era? IMO 90-99 took the cake. Rawkus ran the underground 97-99. I love the mid and late 90's because it took the traditions of the early 90's and pushed the envelope.

Speakin of golden era. I found this last week. Completely forgot about world reknown:

Nah, its us distributed across thw world bedroom beatmaking rapping mofos with a dayjob who are saving the culture.
The culture dies when the golden chain in the artist`s brain substitutes the vision of the world with its struggle and pain.

Hmmmm....Special Ed is the only emcee ever to have a hover craft in his video. Special Ed might be the least intimidating emcee of all time.

Did yall know that he was in Juice!? haha. Remember the dude that was stealing Raheems girl? In the red Nissan with Gold BBS's i believe.
daaaang, this thread got derailed. hahaha
