Possible to DeEss vocal within a song?

I recently had a song mastered and noticed there is one word in the song that really pierces the ear at high volumes due to the 'sss' sound... not sure how it was overlooked in the mix.

Is there a way to address that without causing any issues with the rest of the track?

A good mastering engineer can usually take care of that. Can you go back to him and ask if he can fix that? If not, go back to the mix and take care of it and then get it re-mastered.

A simple DeEsser on the track, automated so it's only engaged during that one word, should do the trick. You could even use it in MS mode, affecting only the middle channel, to kill the sibilance on that word without messing too much with anything else.
