info on mixing & mastering

hello..
i have just completed my first full lenght project and im now looking around the net for someone to mix and master it, i dont know if this should have posted in the "low budget" section or here...

how would you guys rate the mixing on the likes of kev brown, little brother, exile, black milk, people under the stairs...etc?
i guess im asking about these artists because the project would be a simular style of music to these.

what kind budget should i be allowing myself for mixing and mastering a 10 track project? bearing in mind what i said above.

thanks alot,

danny

PS: if anybody here is interested please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Hit up a fellow GS called H-Peh out of Hamburg, Germany.
His website is Hans-Philipp Graf Mixing & Mastering Engineer

He is a highly talented mixing and mastering engineer and a very cool guy on top of that! I have worked with him several times and I´m a fan of his work.

I can't imagine any professional mixing engineer charging any less than $3000 for 10 songs. But that's VERY LOW. I have charged this amount before for 10 songs (it just depends on the circumstances). If you find someone who will do it for less, well, you get what you pay for. I usually charge at least $5000 for a 10 song record of an indie artist. And that doesn't include mastering. Glenn Schick here in Atlanta charges around $180 per hour for mastering. And it's worth every penny.

Just giving you an example of what I charge. I can actually charge less, but the end product will sound like "less" too because I will spend less time on it. I don't like cutting corners but if that's all the artist can afford, then that's what will happen. Like I said, you get what you pay for.

Every mixing engineer here will have different prices. Some may agree and some may not. The best thing for you to do is listen to some previous mixes of whoever you are interested in mixing your record. And then decide what you can afford.

Depending on your deadline, I might be able to help you with the mixing. I can do the mixing on the cheap during downtime at my studio, the only drawback is I can't guarantee the mixes' completion by any specific deadlines, because I'd be going in when the studio is otherwise unbooked. For a full-length, I'd guess you'd be looking at early-to-mid March for completion.

Anyway, if your deadlines aren't super-tight, I can offer very competitive rates for the mix (not the mastering; you're gonna want to go to a specialist for that; anyone who claims to do both is full of **** and will prove a waste of your money).

Feel free to PM me for details. If you'd like, I can send you some examples of my work (or you can poke around here on GS; I've got a number of clips of projects posted all over the site).
