I don't know if any of you have been following the pad drama that surrounds the mpc1000.
Recently Akai has released a pad "upgrade" for $199 that switches the mpc1000 pads from individual sensors to interlink sensors, like every other MPC out there.
Akai has started to put these new pads in the mpc1000's shipping, basically robbing the original owners. This is an admission on their part that the original pads were faulty. They don't even offer replacements for the original individual sensors any longer.
Some guys over @ mpc-forums have started a petition to send to Akai. I have no idea if this shit will work, but if you're interested - go sign it.
Good luck with your petition, however, if I owned an MPC1000 and my pads were dead, I would buy the new pads rather than wait for akai to respond to your petition, in a manner you would be hoping for.
It is a scam and, one that is unlikely to change unless you take Akai to court.
As it is, the pad "upgrade" (for want of a better term) is a ripoff.
Akai should at least be selling this thing half the price they are charging.
I mean, I luuuuvv my MPC but....As a company? These guys suck. Used to hate having service issues with them when I worked at the music store. They were never easy to deal with, which leads me to believe you'll probably get nowhere with a petition to them. If you do get somewhere though, let me know so I can get a petition started about fixing the crappy build quality of my MPC2000XL. I can't even count how many times I've had to buy and install new buttons/knobs on that thing....But still, I center my production rig around it...whatcha gonna do

as stated, it ain't my petition. my pads still work, but i'm considering doing the swap just because i hear it gets rid of the "double trigger" problem. that sucks bigtime.....

Akai is just now doing something about the double trigger issue???
It's been there in all mpc's as far as I hear.
My 2k had that problem too.
That is a scam on Akai's part by the way.
If I was on the fence between a Roland MV, and an MPC, I'd pick the MV based on Akai wanting more money to fix something that's their fault.
i just installed the new pads...you can really tell the difference. i'm feelin it.....and if anyone wants my old pads, i'm gonna put the full set on ebay.

what type of difference? softer to the touch?....pause.
mpcstuff has them for $180 i think, where did you get yours. how was the install? the mpcstuff site also says you need the akai os installed to change the pads....true? thanks for any help. mine work fine but im still changing out.

yep, they are a little bit "softer" - but only because there's about a 1mm space between the pad and the sensor. i like the feeling a lot better. i programmed a couple of loops last night and no more double triggers.
if you've installed something inside a pc or a laptop before, you should be able to handle the install. there's a video up on how to do it here:

the double trigger issue is the best thing about playing mpc's "live". if i didn't have that, i couldnt do any double kick drum beats or ghost rolls. i have an mpc4000 (and pads the are NOT individual) so i presume this issue is the same across the product line. once you learn how to avoid double triggering, its actually a good thing imo.
If they were calling this a new MP llike maybe an MPC1200 than you guys wouldn't complaining. What is the difference between this and any other upgrade cycle? The MPC1000 has been around for several years and I am sorry but this is all perfectly legal.
Why hate a company for coming out with newer and better products?
Just be happy you all got the pads you always wanted in the MPC1000.

I think it would be a small contribution for Akai to say, to sale the MPC1000 PAD UPGRADE for 50% off to current owners. 200 is quite a bit for some sensors and rubber. You know, geez man it sounds as if you work for the Akai or something! This company makes tons of money and a small concession can go along way by easing the pocket on the expense.
